RuffleCon 2016: Calling All Volunteers

Volunteers provide an incredibly vital service to RuffleCon. They fill in the gaps and assist our already hard working staff pull off a successful conference year after year. 2016 will be no exception, as it’s shaping up to be our biggest and best year yet! To make it happen, though, we’ll need all hands on deck, and that includes you!

Interested? Here are some basics you need to know:

  • You must be at least 13 years old the day before the conference.
  • You must be registered for the conference, either single or weekend. You may register at door.
  • You must be aware of your apparel pending on your shift.
  • You must be respectful and have a positive attitude.

Our Volunteers work hard, but not as hard as our Court members. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to enjoy all the things you love about RuffleCon. There are lots of different areas where you can help, too!

Panels:
If panelist needs aid (bringing mic to audience member for Q&A), ushering seats if room is packed, and other duties to help the panel run smoothly. You will be given further instructions per the Programming Manager as needed.

Main Events:
You will be given instructions per the Main Events Manager as needed.

Registration:
You will be given instructions per the Registration Manager as needed. This task will not involve handling money. The task is based more upon acting as a gopher, and aiding the Registration team to keep a consistent line flow.

Pass Checking:
You may be instructed to guard doors, and only allow access to RuffleCon staff. Other doors may be guarded and you must verify attendees’ badges to make sure they are registered for the day’s events.

Set up/Break down:
These tasks are more for Thursday/Sunday and assisting upon request in other events. For these tasks, we’ll be looking for volunteers who are wearing something they don’t mind getting dirty in, so keep in mind to dress appropriately if you volunteer for these shifts. You may be asked to clean up, help unload trucks, do some heavy lifting, or aid in building up rooms for the conference and taking everything back down at the end.

We always need help across the con in many different areas. This is just a small list of some of our more common needs.
